OKTAM Meets with NGOs

Women and Society Application and Research Center (OKTAM) of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) met with representatives from various institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in order to strengthen the cooperation between the city and the university.

The workshop was held at the Meeting Hall of OMU Senate with the participation of Assoc. Prof. Hatice Kumcağız, Director of OKTAM, Faculty Member Dr. Oya Sevcan Orak, Deputy Director of OKTAM, Members of the Board of Directors of OKTAM, and numerous representatives from the Unit of Local Equality affiliated to the Governorate of Samsun, İŞKUR, Provincial Directorate of National Education, Samsun Violence Prevention and Monitoring Center, Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Samsun Business Women's Association (SAMIKAD), Solidarity and Culture Association for Women (HANDER), Association of Education from Women to Society, Cooperative People's Association, Women Entrepreneurs Support and Culture Association, Çarşamba Housewives Association, Paternity Platform and Çarşamba Women Farmers Association.

"Women should be at the top of the agenda not because of the violence that they suffer from but because of their activities"

Assoc. Prof. Hatice Kumcağız emphasized that they aimed to consult each other in terms of the activities that they can make all together, and she remarked: “You are in the field with your studies. You touch upon more women, and consequently, the notion of family. That's why we would like to cooperate with you. We should work together in order that women can be at the top of the agenda not because of the violence that they suffer from but because of their activities".

"The local studies on women issues should be commonized"

Faculty Member Dr. Demet Özmen Yılmaz, Member of the Board of Directors of OKTAM, stated that there were certain studies on women issues on a local scale, but that they should be commonized and expanded.

Participants who thanked OKTAM for their support and stated that they are open to all kinds of cooperation with the University, introduced themselves and expressed their happiness and satisfaction for the existence of such a partnership between the city and the University.

The meeting ended with the participants sharing their ideas and opinions and presenting their evaluations.
