Governor Kaymak: “The Turkish-Islamic civilization is a sharing civilization, not a colonizing one”

Underlining the fact that international students are a different cultural aspect for cities, Samsun Governor Osman Kaymak said: "Good luck to our association. International students add beauty to our city. We are honored to be hosting you in our country. The Turkis-Islamic civilization is not a colonizing society. If you look at our history, we are coming from a sharing culture. Your presence adds value to us. We wish you benefit from what Samsun has to offer. I also support the invitation of our Mayor. When you return to your countries you also talk about Turkey, but let your families come and see the beauties of this land. The more we come to know each other the more we will love. I would like to take this occasion to thank everyone who put an effort in the establishment of this association."

Mayor Yılmaz: “Invite your families to Samsun, we will cover all”

Underlining that international students are a great opportunity in the promotion of cities, Samsun Metropolitan Mayor Yusuf Ziya Yılmaz said: "OMU has about 3500 international students. In a city of the scale of Samsun 3500 international students means big potential and a big chance. I wish to thank all that made this possible. Dear international students, you are the real owners of this city, please embrace it. I would like you to write letters to your families and invite them to Samsun. As guests of the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, we will host them as long as they stay here. They may need to pay for the trip. With the best example of hospitality, as the municipalities, we will provide everything needed to see Samsun. Summer session is starting. Schools will be on holiday. Invite them now. As long as they are here we will cover all."

Rector Bilgiç: “We rank second in Turkey in terms of the number of international students”

Pointing out that OMU is one of the leading universities in terms of the number of international students, Rector Prof. Dr. Sait Bilgiç: "OMU is one of the most important universities of Turkey in terms of internalization. OMU ranked second in Turkey after METU in the evaluation for 2017 in terms of education exportation. We got our award.  We have 3500 international students from 104 countries. The number of international candidate students exceeded 5000 this year. We conduct exams in 28 regions in the world. The applications will end on May 12. Demand is ever rising. I believe the number of our international students will rise to 4500 this year. The ratio of international students to national students is about 1.5% in Turkey. This ratio is at the level of 6% in our university. We consider international students as dear guests. To be from here is something else, but the Turkish people place a particular importance on their guests. We also evaluate international students as such."

Secretary-General Kabadayı: “We provide great services”

Samsun International Students Association Head and OMU Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Dr. Menderes Kabadayı said: "When we established this association we set on the road as to how to do it. We set on a road. Everyone gave us support. We came from that day to this day. Today we are providing great services. International students educationally immigrated to our country. We have no income from hosting these siblings. We would like to thank all who supported us. We are a nation and community. We will host these siblings of ours here and farewell to their countries as voluntary ambassadors."
