OMU Psychology Graduates Tossed Their Caps Online

The graduation ceremony of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Arts and Letters, Department of Psychology was held online with the organization of the Department of Psychology FEDEK Activity Board due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The ceremony was initiated with a presentation by Asst. Prof.  Hilal Peker Dural, the head of FEDEK Activity Board and continued with the opening speeches by Dean of the Faculty of Science and Letters Prof. Dr. Emin Kasap and Head of the Department of Psychology Prof. Dr. Bozkurt Koç.

"Investing in People is Precious and Sacred"

Dean of the Faculty of Science and Letters Prof. Dr. Emin Kasap, emphasizing that the online graduation ceremony was held for the first time in the Faculty of Arts and Letters, started his speech by congratulating the Department of Psychology. Kasap, noting that the best student of the faculty is from the Department of Psychology, congratulated top ranking students and all the graduates. Emphasizing that investment in people is precious and sacred, Kasap wished the graduates to work by always valuing people in their professional lives.

“We are Family”

Starting his speech by commemorating the founder of the Republic of Turkey the great leader Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his brothers in arms, and our gallant martyrs, Prof. Dr. Bozkurt Koç, Head of the Department of Psychology, expressed his thanks to the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Letters Prof. Dr. Emin Kasap, lecturers and families for their support. Koç addressed students by saying that “You are the treasure of this country and so valuable to us.” Koç, stating that he is proud to be in such a virtual environment with the students by organizing an online ceremony, congratulated all the instructors and the students of the Department of Psychology by emphasizing that they have a high sense of belonging and that they are a family.

“Becoming a Good Psychologist is much more than a Good GPA”

The highest ranked student of the Department of Psychology Cansel Telli started her speech by wishing that no generation would experience a pandemic from now on and thanked all her teachers. Telli expressed that becoming a good psychologist is much more than getting a good GPA and hopes to become a psychologist committed to ethical values.

Lecturers who made a speech at the online graduation ceremony; Assoc. Prof. Yeliz Kındap Tepe, Asst. Prof. Hilal Peker Dural, Asst. Prof. Elif Ünal, Instructor Saynur Nevres Kaya, Instructor Aysu Gül Şanli, Instructor Eren Trabzon, Instructor Filiz Koçoğlu, Research Assistant Gizem Gerdan and Research Assistant Doğan Güneş Temli, and Department Representative Çağlar Meşe shared their thoughts and feelings and congratulated the graduates.

The online program which was held with great enthusiasm came to an end with a symbolic video representation of throwing caps after the announcement of graduates’ names.
